Falcon includes a script named MPE which allows to explore more possibilities with your MPE controllers, sending per-note modulations.
First, make sure that your MPE controller is enabled in File > Audio and MIDI Settings > Device > Active MIDI Settings.
Loading MPE script in Falcon
The MPE script can be loaded at Layer or Program level and can be found in the Event Processors (via Script Processor > Utilities) (also available via the Event menus on both Edit and Events pages).
About MPE script
MAIN TAB
The Z axis (pressure) targets the Gain by default, but could also be set to either:
- None
- PolyAT (poly aftertouch)
- Script Event Mod 0
- Script Event Mod 0 (Bi)
The Y axis (timbre) targets the Script Event Mod 1 by default, but could also be set to either:
- None
- PolyAT (poly aftertouch)
- Script Event Mod 1
- Script Event Mod 1 (Bi)
You can adjust the Slew Fall parameter to smooth the release time in milliseconds.
ADV TAB
The X axis (pitch) targets the Pitch by default, but could also be set to either:
- None
- Mod 2 (Bi)
You can adjust the Range parameter to change the pitchbend range (bipolar) in semitones, usually set to 24 or 48.
ADVANCED SETTINGS
- Auto Release: enables auto release Z axis on note-off
- Gain Map: sets the gain mapping curves. This is an automatic
gain remapping when Z axis is used to control Gain. - Init Z: sets the initial value of Z axis
- Global Channel: sets the global MIDI channel of your MPE
controller
Using MPE in Falcon
Z AXIS ASSIGNMENT (Pressure)
Assign any parameter in Falcon to the Z axis (pressure) via Script Event Mod 0 for instance:
- Select Target: Script Event Mod 0 for the Z axis in the MPE script.
- Right-click any parameter in your program, then select Add Modulation > Internal > Program > New Script Event Modulation. For instance, the CutOff frequency of a VCF-20 filter.
- Locate the newly created Script Event Modulation 1 in the Modulation section, and rename it "Pressure" for instance if required. Set Event ID to 0 and make sure that Bipolar is disabled.
- Adjust the ratio slider to set the modulation depth.
- Set a modulation mapper via the Mapper Editor if required.
Y AXIS ASSIGNMENT (Timbre)
Assign any parameter in Falcon to the Y axis (timbre) via Script Event Mod 1 (Bi) for instance:
- Select Target: Script Event Mod 1 (Bi) for the Y axis in the MPE script.
- Right-click the parameter in your program, then select Add Modulation > Internal > Program > New Script Event Modulation. For instance, the Hardsync Shift parameter of an Analog oscillator.
- Locate the newly created Script Event Modulation 2 in the Modulation section, and rename it "Timbre" for instance if required. Set Event ID to 1 and make sure that Bipolar is enabled.
- Adjust the ratio slider in the Modulation section.
- Set a modulation mapper via the Mapper Editor if required.
Important note: if you're using Falcon MPE as plug-in instrument, make sure that your DAW supports MPE. Some DAWs such as Ableton Live requires users to enable the MPE Mode for the dedicated track as shown in the screenshot below.
